Repairing Somfy Orea RTS 25/17: powerful radio motor for larger cassette awnings
The Somfy Orea 50 RTS 25/17 is a powerful radio-controlled motor from the Orea 50 series and reliably extends and retracts larger cassette awnings. If it loses power, repair is worthwhile. We repair it for a fixed price instead of replacing it entirely.
Note regarding usability: As long as the motor is defective, your awning will remain in its last extended position. An extended awning cannot be retracted in windy or rainy conditions and is therefore particularly vulnerable. We recommend having any detected defect repaired promptly.
Typical defects on the Orea RTS 25/17
- Extending the awning works as usual, but when retracting it, the awning stops halfway.
- The drive audibly struggles during the retraction process and cannot manage the last few centimeters.
- Only a manual push gets the motor running again during retraction; the radio transmitter works normally.
The explanation lies in the design of the cassette awning: When extending, the tensioned articulated arms relieve the motor and provide powerful assistance. When retracting, this assistance is absent, and the motor must pull the fabric back against the springs on its own. If its power diminishes, retraction is therefore the first step to failure. This is almost always due to a single defective component inside the motor, which we replace specifically.
What happens during the repair
We open the drive unit, replace the defective component, and then test the Somfy Orea RTS 25/17 under load. Only when it retracts the awning effortlessly and with full power will it be returned to you.
When another service is suitable
If the awning doesn't stay in its end position and the fabric retracts on its own after stopping, the problem lies with the brake or the gearbox. If the motor no longer responds to the remote control at all, the radio electronics are defective. Neither of these issues requires repair, but rather a replacement. Describe the problem to us via our repair request form, and we'll find the right solution.
