Repairing Somfy Orea 60 RTS 120/12: the top model for the largest cassette awnings
The Somfy Orea 60 RTS 120/12, with 120 Nm of torque, is the most powerful motor in the entire Orea 60 series. Its low speed of 12 revolutions per minute allows it to retract even the largest and heaviest cassette awnings smoothly and reliably. If it loses power, repair is almost always the more economical option, especially with a motor of this performance class. We repair it for a fixed price.
Note regarding usability: As long as the motor is defective, your awning will remain in its last extended position. An extended awning cannot be retracted in windy or rainy conditions and is therefore particularly vulnerable. We recommend having any detected defect repaired promptly.
Typical defects of the Orea 60 RTS 120/12
- When extending the awning, it still works, but when retracting the large, heavy fabric either stops or comes back haltingly.
- The motor hums when Start and only begins working when you guide the cloth along by hand for a short distance.
- On the last stretch during the initial drive, the power is no longer sufficient, although the motor continues to execute the radio commands cleanly.
The reason lies in the force distribution of the cassette awning: When extending, the tensioned articulated arms relieve the motor of much of the workload, while when retracting, it rolls up the heavy fabric solely against the spring force. For the very large systems that require this 120 Nm drive, this is the highest load imaginable. If the power diminishes, it is first noticeable during retraction. The culprit is almost always a single defective component inside the drive, which we replace.
What happens during the repair
We open the drive unit, replace the defective component, and then test the Somfy Orea 60 RTS 120/12 under full load. Only when it retracts the heavy fabric smoothly, evenly, and with full power do we release it.
When another service is suitable
If the awning doesn't stay in its end position or the fabric retracts slightly on its own after stopping, the brake or gearbox is faulty. If the motor no longer responds to the remote control or can't be programmed, the radio electronics are defective. In both cases, a replacement is necessary, not a repair. Describe the problem to us via our repair request form, and we'll find the right solution.
