Repairing Somfy Orea 60 RTS 100/12: high-torque radio motor with smooth operation
The Somfy Orea 60 RTS 100/12 with its 100 Nm of torque, is one of the most powerful motors in the Orea 60 series. Its deliberately low speed of 12 revolutions per minute ensures smooth, powerful operation, even with very large and heavy cassette awnings. If it loses traction, repair is almost always more economical than buying a new motor of this performance class. We repair it for a fixed price.
Note regarding usability: As long as the motor is defective, your awning will remain in its last extended position. An extended awning cannot be retracted in windy or rainy conditions and is therefore particularly vulnerable. We recommend having any detected defect repaired promptly.
Typical defects of the Orea 60 RTS 100/12
- Extending the fabric still works, but when retracting it the heavy fabric either stops or creeps back slowly.
- The motor hums when it starts up, but only turns when you move the awning a little bit by hand.
- The drive lacks power in the last few centimeters of the retraction process, while continuing to respond to the radio transmitter.
This is due to the force distribution of the cassette awning: When extending, the tensioned articulated arms support the motor; when retracting, it rolls the heavy fabric against the spring force alone. In the larger systems for which this 100 Nm setting is designed, this is precisely the greatest stress. If the force decreases, it first becomes apparent during retraction. The cause is almost always a single defective component inside the drive unit, which we replace.
What happens during the repair
We open the drive unit, replace the defective component, and then test the Somfy Orea 60 RTS 100/12 under full load. Only when it retracts the heavy fabric smoothly and powerfully do we return it.
When another service is suitable
If the awning doesn't stay in its end position or the fabric retracts slightly after stopping, the problem lies with the brake or the gearbox. If the motor no longer accepts any radio commands or cannot be reprogrammed, the radio electronics are defective. In both cases, replacement, not repair, will solve the problem. Describe the issue to us via our repair request form, and we'll find the right solution.
