Repairing Somfy Orea RTS 6/17: small awning motor, full service
The Somfy Orea 50 RTS 6/17 is the smallest model in the Orea 50 series and powers narrow cassette awnings. Even though it's the most compact motor in the series, repair is almost always worthwhile if it fails. Instead of replacing the motor, we repair it for a fixed price.
Note regarding usability: As long as the motor is defective, your awning will remain in its last extended position. An extended awning cannot be retracted in windy or rainy conditions and is therefore particularly vulnerable. We recommend having any detected defect repaired promptly.
Typical defects on the Orea RTS 6/17
- The awning still extends without any problems, but it is now difficult or impossible to retract.
- During the initial setup, the drive either stops or only starts with some manual assistance.
- The motor hums, but no longer generates enough power to retract the cloth.
The reason lies in the design of the cassette awning: When extending, the tensioned articulated arms assist the motor, while when retracting, the motor must work solely against their spring force. Therefore, if the motor's power diminishes, this is first noticeable during retraction. In most cases, this is due to a single defective component inside the drive unit, which we replace.
What happens during the repair
We open the drive unit, replace the defective component, and then test the Orea RTS 6/17 under load. Only when it retracts the awning reliably and powerfully will it be returned to you.
When another service is suitable
If the awning doesn't stay in its end position or the fabric retracts on its own, the motor brake is defective. We can resolve this issue with our brake repair service for the Orea RTS 6/17. If the motor no longer responds to the remote control or the mechanism inside the motor tube is damaged, replacement is the right solution; our replacement motor for the Orea RTS 6/17 is available for this purpose.
