Repairing Somfy Orea 50 RTS 10/17: compact radio motor for cassette awnings
The Somfy Orea 50 RTS 10/17 is a compact radio-controlled motor from the Orea 50 series for small and medium-sized cassette awnings. If it fails, you don't necessarily have to replace it immediately; in most cases, we can repair it for a fixed price. This way, your existing radio control system remains functional.
Note regarding usability: As long as the motor is defective, your awning will remain in its last extended position. An extended awning cannot be retracted in windy or rainy conditions and is therefore particularly vulnerable. We recommend having any detected defect repaired promptly.
Typical defects on the Orea RTS 10/17
- The awning can still be extended, but when retracting it the motor stalls or stops completely.
- The drive needs a manual push during the initial setup phase before it will even start moving.
- There is insufficient power when retracting the cloth, even though the motor responds to the radio command.
This is due to the design of the cassette awning: The articulated arms are under spring tension and push the fabric forward when extending. When retracting, however, only the motor power matters, as the drive pulls the fabric back against these springs. Therefore, if the motor is weak, this will first become apparent when retracting. The cause is usually a single defective component inside the drive, which we replace.
What happens during the repair
In the workshop, we open the motor, replace the faulty component, and then run the Orea RTS 10/17 under load. It will only be returned to you once it is retracting the awning completely and with full power.
When another service is suitable
If the awning doesn't stay in its end position or the fabric retracts on its own, the problem lies with the brake or gearbox. If the motor no longer responds to the remote control, the radio electronics are defective. Both of these issues cannot be resolved through repair, but only through replacement. Describe the problem to us via our repair request form, and we'll find the right solution for you.
