With 35 Nm of torque, the Somfy Orea 50 RTS 35/17 is one of the most powerful motors in the Orea 50 series and can operate wide cassette awnings. If its power diminishes, it's rarely the entire motor that's broken. We repair it for a fixed price instead of replacing it completely.

This is related to the design of the cassette awning: When extending, the spring-loaded articulated arms provide strong support, so the motor doesn't have to work as hard. When retracting, it pulls the heavy fabric back against these springs alone, requiring full power. If this power diminishes, it's most noticeable when retracting, especially with wide awnings of this size. The cause is almost always a single defective component inside the drive unit, which we replace.

What happens during the repair

We disassemble the drive unit, replace the defective component, and then test the Somfy Orea RTS 35/17 under load. Only when it retracts the awning powerfully and smoothly does it leave our workshop.
